MIL had a stroke FIL didn't seek medical advice

Just that really. Found out today as I was talking to FIL about my own mother who has vascular dementia. FIL said MIL had a little stroke. This came as a complete shock. As MIL was there me and DH waited until she popped to the loo to quiz FIL

Initially he said it was 3-4 months ago then said about 2 months ago. He said he walked Into bedroom and she was sat on the bed. Her face was dropped on one side, she was stareing and couldnt move her arm. He said he was just about to phone GP when she 'came around' and was fine. I asked what GP has said about the incident and he said he/she hasn't told the GP.

Not sure if this is relevant or not but we have been concerned about FIL abusing MIL both verbally (she said he screams and shouts at her) and financially. We took the view that MIL would rather give the money FIL asked for so that she could continue living at home as he does everything for her. In effect she's 'paying' for her care - although unconventionally. We have shown MIL alternative of moving into sheltered housing. She was furious with us.

So - should we get involved and possibly phone her GP and tell them of our concerns? We are worried that if it was a stroke its a warning sign. Although not sure whether that is s myth or not??

Or should we leave well alone thinking FIL knows best? I have to say I personally am uneasy with this option.

Any advice?

Please phone the GP. I'm not sure if they can do anything about the stroke as it was a while ago but you need to give them the information so they can get an idea of the bigger picture.

Please get her to the GP. The next one could be a lot worse.

Thanks everyone. She has an appointment next week so it would be good timing. She's just changed GP though so I don't think he will notice her deterioration as she's only been going there for a couple of weeks.

I'll phone them tomorrow - thanks for the advice.
