Just had a call from respite and hour or so - dad started in antibiotics at 7 pm for UTI. Had fall at 11. Checked by paramedics and put back to bed but taking 2 to walk him.

On Wednesday he was walking pretty ok and I took him to his old " club" ( oap day centre ) and he was supposed to go to art group tomorrow :( so this is really significant rapid deterioration.

I predict admission. Hope im wrong.

Hopefully once the antibiotics have kicked in he will be steadier. Disorientation and falling can be a symptom of a urine infection. Fingers crossed for you both.

You are so right justmuddling I know it really, but I also am aware he's 91 and not been out of hospital above a month since a chest infection. :(

Your poor dad. He has been through so much. Sadly though, I understand it is not unusual for elderly people to find berevement has a significant impact on their health, especially in the early months.

And you too. Exoecct a long tail of exhaustion, so look after yourself.

It never rains.....
My parents were both as fit as fleas until dad became ill and died within 5 weeks. A week later mum had a mild stroke, then we found she had AF and mitral stenosis, then a raging chest infection.
I always thought it was a myth that this happened to bereaved spouses but I have since had several friends with elderly parents who have the same experience.

Look after yourself.

Going to see him tomorrow. Don't know what to think really. Quality of life isn't what it was before xmas and I wonder if he just wants to be with mum ...

Well, visited him today and he seems significantly better thank goodness. I think he scared the staff though.

He even corrected himself and showed he understands what's gone on , I had a black coffee. He looked at it " you like that muck do you..... I used to ....not now, but that's hoe your mum likes it......well liked it"
