School Trip...5 yr olds..on a bus with no seatbelts

just a question here...Alex is going on an Vintage old fashioned bus this Friday...which i think is lovely.

But the head sent a note home which we have to sign saying we consent to them going on it- BUT there are NO SEATBELTS...but he states "that it's ok as it can't go fast"

Now...cos i'm a worrier anyway...this has panicked me a bit ...cos i feel like the school are asking us to 'take away their responsibility'....and anyhow...just cos it goes slow doesn't mean that other drivers will.

Right, but as long as it's a nice big bus, the risks are from 1. it bumping into something at high speed. If it doesn't go fast at all, then this shouldn't be a problem, and 2. something else bumping into it and shunting it. As long as it's a nice big heavy bus, almost anything that bumps it is just going to be smushed, rather than moving the bus much.

I'm not saying this is great, but it's probably ok, for the same reason there aren't seatbelts on city buses.

Is't there a campain to get seat belts on trains? I think I saw the father of a girl who died recently on TV talking about it, He had been sitting oposite to her when it happened. But this train was doing considerable more speed than this vintage bus would do. I think I'd ask the head what the maximum speed the bus will be doing and what sort of roads it is going on because I'm a worrier and I'd like to make the head worry to!

Where is the vintage bus going. Is it actually taking them on a trip or just part of the trip and just going round private roads somewhere.
I work in a nusery and we are not allowed to hire any coaches foe trips unless they have seatbelts fitted.
