I think DD's school are worried about her welfare!!!!

My DD, who is 5, has come home today saying she was taken into a seperate room to disuss "whats been going on", "home" and "stuff".

She said the teacher asked where the bruises on her legs came from. To which my DD told her that Daddy tripped her on purpose and didn't say sorry .

Some months back the school spoke to me about DD crying in class for no apparent reason, to which I couldn't offer an explanation, but maybe its carried on and they haven't told me.

I'm now worried out of my mind. Not that there is something wrong at home - we really have nothing to hide - but that the school think there could be a problem.

Typically this has to happen on a Friday. I have a weekend of worrying ahead of me....

That is my worst nightmare! I get so paranoid id dd has bruises when she goes into school. Try at look at it positively, you have done nothing wrong so they won't take it further but it's good taht the school has a policy of checking isn't it?

oh no. tey not to worry to much im sure teachers dont belive all they hear my dd once told her teacher that i punched her not got nothing usefull to say just want to bump it up for you x

Thank you for the responses.

I've already drafted a letter to the teacher to pop into the office on Monday requesting she call me or make an appointment to see me.

I just don't know how I'm going to get through this weekend for the worry.

Try not to worry too much. Brises are so common on kids this age - my dd is always covered in them. I think schools/teachers are obliged to keep an eye on them though.

Saying that I'm suprised I haven't been called in to explain DD's bruises. Maybe they realise how clumsy she is

5yo's cry at school often for no reason - tired, its still a bit new, fallen out with a friend.

And as for what she told the teacher, I'm sure all teachers know to take what a 5yo says with a pinch of salt. My 5yo tells people that I put sticks up my bum Which I don't!!! She means tampons

i would also say try not to worry too much,if they had been greatly concerned they would have spoke to you but i do think you need to speak to somebody at the school.these things always happen on a friday

Kids almost always elaborate of a story, (not lie, just make the most of it). We teachers know this. I always remember the old parent/ teacher pact' I will ignore some of what she tells me goes on at home, if you do the same when she tells you we flay children for moving out of their seat'

Obviously 'Real' abuse is a different issue, which is understandably taken seriously.

Hi, I'm a reception teacher. Routinely we ask children where bruises come from usually there is a very simple explanation. If the teacher thought there was anything to be concerned about they would have had you in for a chat after school. The only issue is when a parent and child's version is different or if the child gives several different reasons (happens when children cover up for being hurt) I really think you have nothing to worry about. The school would speak to you about your DD crying because they are new into school and I usually talk to parents because children may tell them if they are worried about something at school. I really think you have nothing to worry. Relax and enjoy the weekend. You can always ask they teacher about it on Monday.
