Would you bother making a fuss about this?

DS2 enjoys sport but has problems with contact sports, ie rugby mostly, because a) he is short-sighted and his eyes are too dry for contact lenses and b) he's had fixed braces for over a year so he can't use a mouthguard.

In games at school they're supposed to alternate rugby and football every few weeks, but for one reason or another his group has had almost continuous rugby this winter. He's not allowed to play in his glasses for obvious reasons, he can't see very well without them, and in any case the lack of a mouthguard means he can't play.

There is a new games teacher who has decided he's just skiving and "makes" him run round the field instead. In fact running is his new thing (he gave up football because the manager was a twonk), he entered his first 10K race on Sunday and finished in around 48 mins which is pretty fast. However he pulled a muscle in his back/hip and is limping so I wrote a note to the new games teacher today asking for him to be excused games.

He's just come home and apparently the games teacher was really snotty with him, said effectively that he doesn't believe he ran a 10K because he obviously lives a sedentary lifestyle (or "sedimentary" as reported by DS )

It was his parents' evening last week and he didn't bother making an appt with this teacher - which is a shame with hindsight - but I'm inclined to rear up on his behalf and tear this guy off a strip. Court of mumsnet verdict?

(The results aren't available on the website yet or I'd print his time off and send it in!)

Yes, I'd make a fuss. The teacher is a bully and shouldn't be treating any child that way.

I think it probably is worth bringing it up with him. Why can't your DS play football at school - that bit seems a bit disorganised. I would ring up and make an appt for a few days hence when the results will be out.

Apparently the football/rugby imbalance is related to weather - they go into the gym when it's foul, and there has been more foul weather in football weeks than in rugby weeks, so that's just bad luck.

I have found the results now, in a pdf format, so I've printed them off and I'll send them in and see what happens, thanks all

Yes kick up a fuss, or at least write in, the teacher is a bully with no regard for your sons feelings.
