School Uniform (A bit late I know!)

My DD is due to start reception in September (I had to leave it as late as possible to buy uniform as she was No.1 on the waiting list at the school she went to as a Pre-Schooler)

So I managed to get all the uniform in time except a Summer dress (as the weather is really hot, I think this is needed for start of term), she is a picky little so and so and won't wear anything with a zip or belt and must only have flower buttons on it! (I've had to buy Pinafores that go over the head with no buttons or zips!)

I have search high and low for navy gingham dresses without zips and belts and only flower buttons (these have been out of stock at debenhams) but have had no success and I am about to have a bloody melt down.

Any ideas Ladies!!

Have you tried all the supermarkets - they usually have a good range, but it might be a bit late in the year.

Are they allowed to wear summer dresses in Sept? Our school only 'allows' them in the summer term regardless of weather. (but if it's really hot I let DD wear it anyway, it's school uniform! I'm such a rebel)

Buy any dress, add flower buttons? Hobbycraft do loads.

In warm weather they can wear Summer Dresses, I have tried all the supermarkets, out of stock.

I will ebay as this is the last resort. Otherwise Nanny might have to make one (she don't know this yet!)

Lancelottie good idea! Think I will go down this road first as there are lots in supermarket's with "normal" buttons.

DD when aged 5 had a uniform dress to which we had 'secretly' added a ladybird button. She loved the feeling of (ever so slight) rebellion.

Ebay is great for buttons, just a pound or so and they come in the post, no dragging into town and parking for a tiny purchase. Next are good for uniform as well, they have stock all year and next day delivery.

I'm with Draylon. I would tell her to wear whatever is appropriate that you can find reasonably easily. What is she going to be like when she is a Teenager! You are making a very big and painful rod for yourself.

John Lewis. I think they do the gingham dresses and the buttons are flower shaped but it has a belt. I would ditto that you are creating a bit of a fussy monster .;-)

Tell her it's a uniform and it comes how it comes, so she's going to have to manage without flower buttons? She's going to find school very difficult if you allow her to expect to be pandered to and indulged all the time.

How does she even know about all these options? Just buy a school dress and say 'look, here is your school dress, isn't it lovely' and move on.

Marks and Spencers summer dress have 5 flower buttons down the front, no zip or belt and come in a pack of 2 for £10. We get these every summer in blue from there and they are available to order online and collect in store.
