School trip and transport issues- help me decide please!

DD1&2 are going on the school trip to the theatre in a week or so's time. The theatre is in another town about 1/2 hours drive away, part of which is on the motorway. School are providing "proper" double deck buses IYSWIM from a hire company.

Now, both girls are under 135cm tall, so therefore really need to take their booster seats. However, although the buses do have seat belts, they are only lap type belts.

Is it safer to use their booster seats with a lap belt (which I know isn't recommended) or just use the seat belts without a booster? I'm not sure I like the sound of either choice really, so I'm open to all advice. TIA.

We have just received a letter which we have to sign to say we are happy for our child to leave the school on trips. The bit we are not happy about is that transport is stated as staff and parents cars as well as coaches. What about car seats? We have refused to sign it and my husband will be emailing the Head.

I really don't know the answer to your question and it may be best to ring somewhere like Halfords who know about car seats, etc.

THe main point of a booster (I think) is to raise the child so the diagonal part of the seatbelt is in the correct position across the child's shoulder - so really not any use with a lap belt.
