I am astonished that only the BBC has picked this up in the press.

Why is there no public outrage?

How many schools and pupils have been affected by these "unsatisfactory" inspectors?

It has relevance to a school I know which was inspected by Contracted inspectors, two of whom were not teachers, and one whose behaviour on the inspection was inappropriate. Untold stress arose from that inspection.

Wow! I had no idea this was even a problem and I'm on a slow burn to fury.

I'm changing schools at the moment and this means I cannot be sure the Ofsted assessment is accurate - which is pretty much the only comprehensive assessment of a school I can lay my hands on!

T'was always the case. I wouldn't ever have taken notice of what Ofsted said. The system has always been hugely flawed.

Ofsted has never been reliable. Certainly up to a couple of years ago there were still many inseptor who had never been teachers, I am unsure if this has improved. We were inspected in May and they certainly did and said things which Ofsted official says should not happen.

They should set up an independent Office for Standards in Standards in Education, or Ofstested, to ensure regular inspections of the inspections.

Of course this body would need monitoring by Ofstestested though, to ensure standards.

OFSTED has always been a load of bollocks (imo). There is a school near me that was outstanding in 2006 and hasn't been inspected since. In that time it has had 4 new headteachers (one of whom killed herself), the whole staff has changed and kids are leaving in droves.

And yet someone that doesn't know the area or the school will see that it's still 'outstanding' and believe it.

Because it's been like for a long while now and this is a very clear sign of a serious attempt to fix it?

Would you prefer nothing? Defensive reassurances that everything is fine and dandy?

I'm pleased by this and some other changes they have made. It's a pity it took them so long, but Wilshaw clearly isn't that sophisticated and mistakenly thought a few speeches and memos would be enough to transform the ranks.

They don't judge lessons now though, do they? It's at least 18 months since they made some perfectly comprehensible noises about that.

That's clearly not the same as judging lessons, although I suspect we'd agree that data can be delusional.

I think too many people take Ofsted too seriously.

I recently had concerns about a school inspection (as a parent) and contacted ofsted to find out more about their process in a couple of areas (bullying and special needs provision). The inspector I spoke to was very open with me but I was quite shocked as to how superficial the inspection really is. It does mean that school is rated as good in those areas and they are quite simply not. My only option was to make a formal complaint.

OFSTED doesn't count much for me now, as at my kids last inspection it was outstanding about 4 years ago, we are well overdue an inspection and it certainly isn't outstanding now! Yet anyone looking at it will not know any different.

If they are sacking this many inspectors, then clearly the whole organisation needs to be looked at. There has been a very obvious leadership failure it would appear that at the very least recruitment & training procedures are inadequate & inspectors. Additionally there has clearly been ineffective communication around the purpose of the inspections & how to assess schools effectively.
