ks1 sats query re extended paper

Dd has done sats this year and she did the normal papers and the extended ones. I'm presuming the standard paper allows dc to get 2a as the highest level so what does the extended paper go up to?
I was explaining levels to dh this evening and realised I had no idea what tests dd has really done.

There isn't an extended paper just different tests for different levels. Children in KS1 should only be tested once using either the Level 1 tasks, the level 2 test or the level 3 test.

That's not what we were told.
"All dc take one paper for literacy and one for numeracy and those who do well will given the chance to do the extended paper"
dd has done these.

I'm sorry but whoever told you that is incorrect I would suggest that they read the Assessment and Reporting Arrangements document

The key stage 1 ‘Assessments and reporting arrangements’ explain which pupils should take the tasks and tests and how results should be used to inform teacher assessment (TA) judgements in English and mathematics.

Which tasks and tests to use
Schools should select tasks and tests appropriate to the level at which each pupil is judged to be working.

if the teacher has assessed a child as level 3 based on their everyday work in class then they should administer the level 3 test to support their assessment. If they have assessed a child as level 2 based on their day to day work then giving them the level 3 test is pointless ....

OP, mrz always says that, and I'm sure she is correct as she is very knowledgeable. Smile

However it does appear to me from reading threads here, that many many schools aren't as well informed and do exactly what you describe. Everyone does the level 2 paper, and then they give the level 3 additionally to those who do well with the level 2.

The head teacher at the sats parents meeting explained and dd's teacher let us know dd would do both papers. School is outstanding and dd loved doing the tests so guess it's working even if they're doing it wrong.

The head teacher needs to read the statutory requirements rather than misinform parents.
