I think I'm going to get mathletics so the dc's can practise at home. Their days of workbooks are dwindling and prefer laptop based challenges. The mathletics website has been helpful but I can't quite figure out a few things.

  • Once they've got their own log-in and passwords they can use them on any computer can't they? So if we go to grandmas they can log-in via her laptop too?

-Do they fanny about and choose what they want to do and where to start? Or is it structured so they can progress?

  • What happens if they reach the end of a certain level (are there levels?). Can they move up to the next one? For instance if Y3 DS finishes everything for Y3 children does he move onto Y4 work?

  • Is the Mathletics android Hudl app any good? I get the impression it's just for top-up activities, they won't be able to access the main site through the app?

TIA

-Do they fanny about and choose what they want to do and where to start? Or is it structured so they can progress? AFAIAW, they choose their start level and can then work up through the levels

  • What happens if they reach the end of a certain level (are there levels?). Can they move up to the next one? For instance if Y3 DS finishes everything for Y3 children does he move onto Y4 work? ^I don;t know of anything that stops them doing any of the exercises - so, if your DS finishes the work he can move onto the next levels if he so chooses.

  • Is the Mathletics android Hudl app any good? I get the impression it's just for top-up activities, they won't be able to access the main site through the app? My oldest DD has downloaded the app onto our Samsung Android tablet - she hasn't said that it limits access to the main site and seems quite to play with it on the tablet

It's pretty cool - our school has purchased access to it for everyone, and the children all seem to enjoy it, especially since they can see their friends on it and challenge them.

We've got mathletics. You can access it from any computer. As far as I can remember, you just set the level at the beginning, so if they are in year three you choose that.

We have the ipad app and it works fine.

I don't really like it. I think it's quite dull and it can be 'clunky' if that's a word.

I live abroad so I have used a few different things like this to top up my children's education and mathletics is one of my least favourite.

I've also used maths whizz and timez table blaster.
And a few apps. The Mr Thorne apps are my dc's favourites.

The parent chooses their level (based on academic year) then each subject area has easy - medium - more difficult exercises that they can choose. If they finish everything or are working above their age you can move them up, there is some sort of limit on how often you can change levels but it's not too restrictive.
They can 'fanny about' and choose what to do, but stuff they've already done is marked as completed. You get a weekly email telling you how many times they logged on, for how long, what exercises they did and their scores. if you wanted them to work on a specific area you'd have to police that.

update, 'cos I'm a helpful mnetter Grin.

We've had mathletics at home for a week now and the dc's are enjoying it. I've been setting 3/4 tasks every couple of days and once they've done them they usually pick something they fancy doing then go on live mathletics. After an intial shouty "it's TOO HARD!" whinge fest they've get much faster at it.

I quite like seeing the kids from other countries pop up on the live screen map.
