how do you change primary schools?

Maybe I'm being a bit slow here, but I would like to know what the process is for moving primary schools.

My DD is due to start reception this September, we have filled in the application form, met the deadline and so on, and we are happy with the school she's likely to get into. BUT, we already know that there's likely to be a move in the pipeline after Xmas this year, so it's likely my DD is going to have to move schools after her first year. Far from ideal, and I'm already stressing about it.

What I want to know is: how do you apply for a year 1 place, when is the best time to apply, and do you need an address first if applying to a different Local Authority? We are looking at Bristol, which is a nightmare for oversubscribed schools, and to be honest, until I know which school she might get, I don't really want to commit to the move.

I don't want to rent a house before we buy and then find out she gets into a really grotty school. Is there any way of finding out first what her options might be? I think all applications have to go through to the LA. Would it be too late if we applied early next summer e.g June, for her to start in September 2016 in Year 1? We'd have to realistically move in the school holidays otherwise how would we get her to her existing school every day? I just can't seem to see how people move schools and area at the same time if their child is already in school!

Sorry, hugely complicated and doing all the wrong things the wrong way round - the joys of moving jobs.... If anyone has any knowledge, or has been in a similar situation, I'd love to hear. Thanks.
