why is it that the most troublesome kids in the class seem to belong to parents who are very involved with the pta!?!

Maybe these kids think they can behave this way because there parents are part of the school and they wont get into any trouble. The logic of kids has always astounded me

because they have those awful oarents who get over involved in their kid's lives and let them walk all over them.
Of course I'm not saying that all parents an the pta are like that but I have met a few ,whilst on the pta.

Glad it is not only me that thinks this but it is a bit of a sweeping statement as there are lots of others involved with pta who are fine

Worst pupils in last school I worked at were the ones whose parents never got involved ina apositive way with school - np parent's evening, etc. But very happy to come in and tell you to F* Off if you gave their child a detentiion.

oh no hulababy! obviously belong to the feed chips/burgers through the school gates brigade. Glad i am not a teacher i couldn't be diplomatic enough.

(sweeping statement here) the troublesome kids always seem to get most of the teachers' and head teacher's attention. Lots and lots of praise for doing what well behaved children do every day with no recognition.

lovingbarney - that school isn't THAT far away, only next town! I;m not teaching now - that school proved to be enough and the end of that for me. In a prison now - much nicer ennvironment

mell2 - you are right. One of the things that really got to bme in the end was that I felt I was no longer teaching, just doing class managment for a significant minority of children in each class. The good ones and the quiet ones didn't get my teaching. I had no choice but to deal with those not behaving appropriately. Hated it.

mel2 - you are right.
A new headmistress has just started at DS1's school. He was upset the other day because she didn't know his name, I thought that was a positive thing at this stage!

agree with mell2. DS1 used to pick up on this and realised that certain children were being awarded for sitting still and listening, while the rest of the children received no special praise for doing just that because they always sat still adn listened. What do you think he started doing?

i agree with mell 2 as well. should be more praise for the well behaved kids. It must be a nightmare to keep class control
