Chetham's Music School - uniform?!

One of our DC is looking likely to start at Chetham's next year, which we are very happy about. Everything about it looks ideal for this particular child - but the one thing I haven't been able to find out about is the uniform. Do they have one? And if so, what's it like?
Sorry if this seems immensely trivial... Grin

www.monkhouse.com/images/monkhouse/Microsoft%20Word%20-%20CHETHAM.pdf

This comes up on Google - 2007 link though. I see Chets students on my commute, have never particularly noticed what they wear so it must be fairly ordinary! Black I think.

Thanks - I had found that link, but wondered whether things had changed since then. This particular child has had a v fancy uniform until now, so 'fairly ordinary' will be a change...

Ring Monkhouses? They are the uniform stockists for the independent schools of Manchester and will have the up to date information, if it has changed.

oh congratulations to you! I have a seven year old who dreams of going to Chets (& has no chance...)

Ring the school??

If you can't get this basic info from the school, then there's something wrong.

I assumed the OP just didn't want to ask the school in case it seemed presumptive or something…?

If the school disapproves of a parent asking for details of uniform (assuming they have not sent them out or posted them on the website) that's not a great sign, is it? Why is the OP scared of asking the school such a sensible question? It suggests an unbalanced relationship, with the school having the power. Also, not great that the school doesn't let parents have details of uniform without being asked.

ElizabethMedora - your assumption is spot on! This is our DC4, and there are particular issues involved (which I don't want to go into on here) - so I would like to get everything else in place before I start asking the school relatively trivial questions about uniform. I had just wondered about it as I was sewing name-tape into blazers.

FWIW, the school has shown no sign whatsoever of being unwilling to answer potential parents' questions. On the contrary, we have been more than happy with all our dealings with the school thus far. In fact, the 'niceness' and openness of the school is one big reason we are keen for DC4 to go there. It's slightly bizarre that someone could take my musing about uniform and deduce that the school has an unbalanced relationship with parents. Confused

TranmereRover: thank you! My other DC wouldn't have got in in a million years, but it's ideal for DC4...

I've got a son at Chets. The uniform is black blazer, black trousers, white shirts and a school jumper and tie. Only the jumper and tie need to be purchased from school, all the other items can be bought from anywhere. Hope that helps.

My dd goes to a similar type of school to Chets (dance rather than music)
The uniform list is given out in the induction pack & is pretty much a go to this shop for these items type of list.
The list might be updated before next year or won't have been produced yet. There will be no big secret.
Are there any pictures in the website?

Thanks very much indeed, TwoflowersLuggage and Picturesinthefirelight. I can't believe how marvellously straightforward this sounds (very different from what we have been used to, and is evidently going to be a gazillion miles cheaper).

There are no pictures on the website, but Twoflowers has told me exactly what I need to know. Thank you! Smile

Dd is exempt from PE at her school so the uniform is loads simpler in that respect (her previous school had wool blazers & a myriad if different sports items). However that has been counteracted by the mountain of dance uniform.

Will your ds be boarding?

Ah yes, the endless fancy bits of PE uniform... Yes, my DC will be boarding (if it all works out!)

Good luck. My dds school does the occasional pergormance with Chets where they use the orchestra. Usually Upper School not lower school though.
