Grrr, ambiguous PE kit!

Dd started her new school last week. Uniform list for PE said soemthing like "white vest or t-shirt, blue games skirt, blue gym knickers, white ankle socks and black plimsolls." Mrs mw14 and I duly went out and bought them all, only to discover that in fact only the things she needs until after Easter are the gym knickers and top, as skirts aren't worn inside and all activities are done barefoot. By the time Easter arrives, her plimsolls and skirt will be way too small! Why do schools do this?!

Uniform doesn't have a reason, it's there for the vanity of pushy parents and lazy teachers.

"it's there for the vanity of pushy parents and lazy teachers"

SURELY PUSHY PARENTS WOULD WANT THEM TO WEAR DESIGNER GEAR AND NO UNIFORM, AND Y DOES TIHS MAKE TEACHERS LAZY?

i dunno it seems they like to get everything sorted at the beginning. do the school have a special supplier? my son i'm sure hasn't worn his rugby shirt, good job too as i got a huge one he could grow into it hehe. uniforms don't have a reason? can't understand that bit

Half her kit will be too small when she comes to wear it, so it's hardly getting it sorted! I know plimsolls aren't exactly expensive, but the skirt was £10, which will make it the most expensive duster ever. If they do indoor lessons in bare feet and knickers, just tell us!

But you don't by games skirts to fit - you buy the biggest the child can cope with - I had the same one from 11 until 17 when we stopped wearing them. Went from knee length to not quite covering the knickers length.

Uniform is for "the "vanity of pushy parents?" How do you work that one out, DC? Not quite sure how blue polo shirts and grey trousers fits into the pushy parent category myself ...

We've had the opposite, and it's just as annoying. Dd has just gone into Year 1 and needs PE kit for the first time (it was vest and knickers last year); the booklet we had last year told us that all we'd need was a white T-shirt, navy shorts and pumps. So, off we go and get all kitted out, and today dd comes home with a timetable for PE and a note which tells me that I have to get her a track-suit and trainers as well. Oh, and a spare t-shirt and shorts "just in case". Oh, and by tomorrow, as that's when their first session is ...

don't know mw14 - same for us - they tell us to get plimsolls and, as far as I can make out from dd, they only ever use them in summer. I guess they want to have the option to take them outside if it's a nice september day.

why not sell the stuff on ebay - at least then you can recuperate some of the money?

DD has had her gym skirt from age 7. SHe's now 9yo. It iwll fit her til 11yo easily. Even if she puts weight on round her waist, I can move the buttons to ease it (found this out as bought her 2nd hand from the uniform shop and although it was her waist size, the previous owner had moved the buttons so I had to mvoe them back).
