Hi all, after viewing this school it shot to the top of our preference list for our DS as it ticked all the boxes for us. However as we are not from the local area, we are planning on moving next year, we are lacking the views of current/past parents. I was wondering if anyone here has any personal experience of this school or knows of anyone who has? I am mainly concerned with the pastoral care, boarding and general teaching. If anyone could help broaden our viewpoint that would be great.

Thanks

it does look like a lovely school. I know someone who looked around it and liked it but chose somewhere closer to home as their ds wasn't ready to board.

Hi Happypony,

We looked at Sandroyd, Port Regis and Windlesham House. Liked all three schools. All schools now offer trial nights, so probably best to contact your choices direct and book one in.

We did just that and both our DS chose Windlesham House. They loved the staff, children and whole atmosphere around the place. There is lots written about Windlesham on mumsnet. That is how I found out.

Anyway, it is a bit like choosing a house, you know when something feels right!

Good luck..and feel free to PM me if you need any help.

Just a word of warning on the boarding at Sandroyd. The boarding figures include children who stay just one night a week, flexi boarding is the most common boarding up until years 7 and 8. There are only a handful of full boarders and weekly boarders. Even at the top of the school, the "full boarding" only consists of a couple of "all in" weekends a term, otherwise children may go home after matches on Saturday and return Sunday evening, most take this option. Not great if you are overseas or not local.

Hi Oriol,
I don't know if this thread is still relevant, but just thought I would input as a current Sandroyd parent with two very happy children at the school. The boarding is thriving, and I can think of a number of parents who have turned up on a Saturday only for their child to ask if they can stay in at the weekend! There is a sensible amount of flexibility which works very well - however, weekends are busy with good numbers of children. Lots of events are put on which aren't particularly flashy, but what we would be doing at home - children enjoying traditional country activities making the most of the stunning grounds. Please do PM me if you would like further information. Our children feel very much part of a happy boarding family and simply love it.
