CD Roms for learning to read

Ds1 really enjoys the DK 'My first number' CD-Rom, and I was wondering about getting the reading one. Has anyone used this, or a different CD-Rom, and do you have any comments? I have tried teaching him reading quite a few times and I find it hard to maintain the momentum, so that it's still fun for him after he's learned a few words. I thought this CD-Rom might be good for him as it would give him a more structured approach, with something to aim for. He does enjoy computer games and has done so for about a year.

There aren't any reading programmes on CD-ROM that I'd recommend. At the moment there is only one synthetic phonic programme available on CD-ROM and that is designed and priced for school use www.fastphonicsfirst.co.uk

If your son is very young (2-6) then I suggest you get the Jolly Phonics DVD and the Jolly Songs CD.

The Clifford games are good - make sure you get the English version though as we have one that is American. There are various ones - Reading, Thinking, Learning & Music - we also have a Phonics one but that is the US one

You could try this free US website which has lots of fun phonic stories. You don't say how old your son is, but DS1 enjoyed it at 4-5.
