confused about when DD would move up

DD turned 5 a few weeks ago. she started reception in april. is it possible she'd go to year 1 in september? her annual report said at the end 'i wish her success in year 1' so that got me wondering if she was moving up already after only being in reception for about two months...

yes, I should think she'll be going up to year 1 in september. A bit daft isn't it? They start them in reception later in the school year because they are younger but then expect them to suddenly catch up just like that and go with all the other older children into year 1. Mind you, I have no idea how else they could do it.

Our school only has one intake for all children (in september) so my son who is about the same age as your DD started reception last september along with children who were already 5 and will go into year 1 this september.

Yes, she'll be going up to Year 1 in September. If your school has a policy of taking children into Reception in three intakes (one each term, then they should be geared up in Year 1 to cater for children who have only had a single term of Reecption experience.

gosh, i really didn't expect that. she's only just settled in!
thanks for clarifying that. it's so odd. i'm from belgium and the system there is (or was when i was in school anyway) much simpler.

Yup that is what happened to our nephew. He moved from the nursery attached to the school to Reception at Easter , then yr 1 in September. Generally from "school age" (having turned 5), they only move up each September,
