Suggestions for good websites/ software for 6-7 year old boy please...

DS1 (6.5) used to be on the computer several times a week, but now hardly touches it. At one level that's fine, because it's summer, and I'd much rather he was outside playing etc. But the other day when it was raining and I suggested the computer he said, "no, it's boring..". Turns out he's bored of his existing CD roms and the websites he knows, so I think I need to find some new ones to stimulate interest.

Suggestions please!

The sorts of things he's enjoyed to date are:

  • lego website
  • cbeebies (but probably getting a bit old for it now?)
  • bamzooki
  • lego racers game
  • lego star wars game
  • all the 'Jump Ahead' series of educational CDs

He's a fluent reader, and doesn't have any problems finding his way around software/ websites, so I'm thinking he might need something aimed more at 7-8 year olds. But I won't let him play all the aggressive power ranger/ cartoon/ toonami sort of stuff.

    Any suggestions please??

I was just about to say the Lego Star Wars game - but I see he's already played it. I have to peel my 5 year old off the computer! My ds also enjoys things like Toca 2 touring cars and also likes to play This online

Ooh! I was about to start a thread asking a very similar question - hope you don't mind me joining in? I'm looking for a suitable computer game for a birthday present for DS3 who will be seven soon. He too is a fluent reader, and I'd like to keep him away from anything with fighting as he tends to reenact such things in real life. I've been looking round the shops today and have found the I Spy series (Treasure Hunt, Fantasy, School Days and Spooky Mansion) which look like fairly gentle problem-solving games, but I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone whose children have used them on how challenging they are and whether they are any fun. I've also seen Myst IV and Myst V which say they're aimed at the over-7s - does anyone have any experience of those?

Gameboy - how about the Harry Potter games? (There's a bit of fighting, but they're not all that aggressive.

I've just found the I Spy website - it looks as if the games mainly consist of looking for objects in big pictures. I was looking for something a little bit more interesting.

Tha absolute all-time tops for this age and type in my opinion are the Zoombinis, as Enid said, and Thinkin' Things. You can't get the TT CD-Roms easily any more, but there are loads on eBay, especially from US sellers, and they are only a few dollars. I can't recommmend them highly enough, really. Ds still loves them and he's 11.

Here is the I Spy website, furball.

Enid and tamum, Zoombinis look good - thank you very much! I'll look into Thinkin' Things next.

Enid and tamum, thanks for the recommendation. DS3 is really enjoying the Zoombinis Logical Journey, and I've got one over DH by working out how to play it - it hadn't occurred to him to try pressing the little pink question mark for an explanation...
