calling all teachers - literacy help for me!!!

Am thinking of training as a primary teacher, and tried the on-line test for basic skills. Well I failed the literacy. So calling all you teachers out there, are they any web sites that would be useful or books ??? and how do you cope teaching a subject you yourself are not that good at???

They are worth plugging away at as they do get easier with practice. There are also books available to help. The best I have found is, 'Passing the literacy skills test' by Jim Johnson. www.learningmatters.co.uk Available form Amazon et al at £6.99

Teaching a subject you yourself are not that good at is a wonderful experience. You can truly understand your students difficulties, and work with them to overcome them. When they do, you can express genuine pride, as you know how hard it is. As a teacher it is sometimes too tempting when a student asks a question to quickly tell the answer and move on. If you aren't so good at the subject you are forced to sit with them and to help them to think it through. I teach a different subject to my degree - up to A-Level - and find it a great bonus!

hey dont worry - i learnt quite a bit of it whislt teaching.....if you are from my generation then grammar wasnt taught at school then!!
