GCSE grade boundaries

poppydoppy · 06/05/2013 08:20

I am totally shocked to see what the GCSE grade boundaries are in core GCSE subjects. For example in physics students only have to get 33% to get an A*, Chemistry 39% and English lit 49%

Are other exam boards like IGCSE and IB the same?

that really doesn't sound right at all poppydoppy - do you have a link to where you saw this?

What is the source of those figures?

annh · 06/05/2013 08:26

Done before - and proven to be incorrect?

Sorry if it bores you notfluffy, perhaps you should look at another thread instead!

I suspect OP hasn't read source correctly... and they were referring to the actual marks not the %

poppydoppy · 06/05/2013 08:28

OK, Ive just looked again and the marks are out of 60 therefore not a % mark. Phew.

Not sure which exam board you are looking at as this certainly isnt the case for edexcel. Grade boundaries for chemistry at A are about 44/60 (73%) per unit. Wow I wish your grade boundaries were the right ones as my dd would be an A student (along with 90% of the population)

annh · 06/05/2013 08:31

Suspect the Daily Fail apply the same level of care and attention as the OP to some of their pronouncements on education .....

lilolilmanchester · 06/05/2013 08:32

I posted before you posted link :-)

Notfluffy, how nasty and unhelpful. Run off and boast about your girls somewhere else.

lilolilmanchester · 06/05/2013 08:35

blimey annh and notfluffy, the OP made a mistake, which we all realised... Your superior intelligence hasn't made you very nice people.

Thank, lilolilmanchester some people are very touchy this morning LOL

I didn't read that as boasting but exasperation at the reality that students do have to work bloody hard for their grade and that it is frustrating to read the constant doing down of the exam system...often based on mis-information like that found in the opening post.

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 06/05/2013 08:39

Must be all a matter of perspective [ grin]

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 06/05/2013 08:40
Grin
annh · 06/05/2013 08:42

There's no superior intelligence involved - the OPs statement about grade boundaries is so obviously incorrect that a second glance at the figures would have shown that and been warranted before posting.

poppydoppy · 06/05/2013 08:43

My DD is currently doing GCSEs and has got A* in all her mocks so far without too much revision, when I saw the grade boundaries I wrongly assumed it was a % mark. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I don't post on here often so Ive not seen the old threads on this topic.

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 06/05/2013 08:48

It's not just old threads, it's the Government and the press. Your post is bearing the brunt of a lot of rubbish spouted out there by people who really don't understand the realities.

Well done on your dd doing well without much effort btw.
