We have a year 11 boy who is thinking of going here to board...
We have to make a decision quite soon and are not able to visit the school until a week or so before we pay the deposit ...eek

We live a way away and therefore have no friends with insider knowledge - we'd love any information - good or bad....

Long time MNer just name changed

thanks

They are pushy. If he responds well to pushiness he should be ok.

I think he can be quite competitive - academically ...

Slightly worried about the sport as he's not very - despite 'looking' the part!

I think the sport is more important earlier in the school. By sixth form there are other skills you can have which are admired. Earlier in the school it's them who like rugby, and them that don't iyswim. I imagine sixth formers are past that.

If you're worried about him being out on the town, just tell him you've got a couple of Mumsnetters spying on him and reporting back grin.

iccle i'll hold you to that if he goes!!!! ;)

I'll pay you!

No idea how I ended up here but I'm a student in the LRGS sixth form, so if you have any questions fire away.

Iclaudius Did you decide for or against Lancaster? - my DS is going as a boarder this Sept and is very excited - he is bright but not sporty - it seems a big enough school to all and the new headmaster is excellent. The matrons in the junior house are lovely

The school is a fantastic school. Our boy excelled there but we did have problems with one of the cleaners being inappropriate with him. As far as I am aware she is still there

Have 2 sons there and would not recommend it to anyone. Its covered up bullying for 18 months and just sweep it under the carpet. I have 2 other parents that I know who also have had their sons in a terrible emotional state due to bullying. I am really shocked at the boys morals and how they get away with their attitudes and I am trying to get a anti bullying group set up. Academically my boys thrive but socially it is unacceptable the morals of the school are very low. Just my opinion of course and a few others as the boys have a pack mentality and are never made accountable for their actions by the teachers. I would move my sons but they continue to stay and put up with it for the academic rewards only. Feel free to contact me for any more information.

Any more about bullying in LRGS? My son will be a Year 9 boarder in this school. I'm so worry as we're from overseas ...

Any update in Lancaster Royal Grammar? Overall boarding life, support from school, is it ok?

iclaudius, any comment from you after entering the school?

I have friends with boys in years 7, 8, 11 and sixth form and they all recommend the school. I don't think it has any more of a bullying problem than any other school. (Perhaps just more touchy parents!). It is highly thought of in the area and does well on The Times list etc. My year 5 son will certainly be sitting the exam in September even though we are out of area. I believe the new head is doing good things too.
