Foundation Governers

I have been asked to put my name forward to be a foundation governer at my sons school. A foundation governer is one who is appointed by the church, and does not have to have a child at that school, as opposed to a parent governer. Is anyone one? Or does anyone have any advice on what sort of thing I wouls be expected to do?

Iam a an active governor - parent variety and Finbar is too..

We have just been praised on our exemplary governing by OfSTed! so we are full of it at the mo!

WE have one full governors meeting every half term - time limit set of 2 hours - we have a very efficient chair - and then sub comittees and Links to classes or areas - so we go and visit them twice a year.

We also deal with appointments and other personnel issues - but you could be on Finance or curriculum cttees.

It is not easy and a lot of the jargon is hard - luckily I have a teaching backgound which helps.

I would find out what the Chair is like as that wil affect a lot of what you do

I know the chair from serving on the PCC with him a few years back, he's an efficient sort of chap!
How much worlk is there outside of the meetings. Our head is leaving in 2005 and one of the things that is swaying em is the chance to have an opinion on that.

We were inspected in the last school year.
Oh goody - can I go off looks?
Our vicar would kill me for saying that - he wants a Christian voice in the debate!!

I could go with Eric Clapton!

Its a small school - average class size 28, one class per year, at the moment the only vacancy on the Board of governers is the one I am going for.
