Sick and tired of things going missing, it is costing me a fortune. Do the teachers expect 4 yr olds to be responsible for them, just need to know who to have a moan at, Teacher or DS

Are they named? I guess it's nigh on impossible for a teacher to be responsible for 30 lots of hats etc but 4 is too young to be wholly responsible too.

How easy is it for a teacher to be responsible for 30 sets of hats and coats and gloves?

I can't keep track of my two, let alone a whole class.

Sympathy tho, my 9 year old is still loosing stuff

I think that you just have too accept that the loss of hats etc. is an inevitable part of them being at school TBH.

I thionk once they're at school then lost items become pretty much the norm they usual arrive home in other clothes and it is just a case of living with it and not having anyhting too precious.

Make sure that everything is named.

Check lost property often, even when you think all hope is lost i.e. after you have been out and bought replacements. If old ones are found they'll do for when new ones go missing!

Ask around at the gate. DD's swimming hat went missing and i was furious - the third time in a term I was required to get a new one. They go into cleared changing rooms and leave them empty so it had to be one of 11 girls who had it. One of the mums came up trumps

When mine were little I always checked they had everything (bookbag, book, reading record, hat, gloves, coat, jumper ...) when they came out at the end of the day. If they'd forgotten anything I sent them back in (by themselves) to find it ... which they didn't like at all at the end of the day when they were tired and just wanted to get home!

I also taught them to always put their gloves in their pockets, and to tuck their hat and scarf in the sleeve of their coat when they came in from play.

They soon learned to check their things themselves, and took responsibility for their belongings.
