Well two of mine have gone back today, and the house seems a lot quieter. Dd2 has gone into year 2 and ds1 has started reception today for the first time. No tears, very quiet and shy, looking all vulnerable with his broken arm, bless him. I'm picking him up at 12 for the first couple of weeks, so no full day just yet. Dd1 starts secondary school tomorrow.

How did everyone else get on?

DD started nursery today - she looked so small and alone - I must admit to shedding a tear or two

My twin DS's started reception today.
They were very excited, while we were waiting to go in, they ran all around the yard looking at the murals and games painted on the yard.
They are staggering the intake, so it was just them and another little boy in their class this morning. They dived straight into a box of cars and started playing.
It was quite a relief they didn't give DH or I a backward glance !!!
It made me feel much happier !!!
The house is so quiet now though, perhaps I'll take the chance to clear out the playroom, don't know what else to do with myself !!!

DS1 starts reception in 2 weeks time

I have no doubts about his ability to cope, it's me I'm worried about Part of me is excited about it but part of me can see him slipping away from me.

mine are back tomorrow and I am glad I am not alone in feeling a little sad.I have lost count the amount if times i have heard people say"roll on back to school".Or people are saying to me that I bet you can't wait until they are back at school.Well yes I can I know they have to go to school and I am not clingy or anything like that it's just we have are little darlings for such a short time and their childhoods go so quickly that I try to enjoy all the time we have together. Not looking forward to the school runs again either.

Well, they had a great time !!
I collected them for lunch, and they told me all about their morning, and were very keen to go back after lunch.
Lets just hope it lasts.
I'm just off to download the photos I took this morning and send them to friends and family !!!

Mine had a good time too. Ds1 has stated he will be returning to school tomorrow, lol. Dd2 came out with 2 stickers for good work too. Now I have to tell the school ds1 won't be going to school on Friday as dh and I have to attend a funeral, and have noone to collect him that early .

ds1 (6) was a bit nervous of going back today, but had a fantastic day ... he was just made for school - he loves all the academic work! We've had a brilliant summer, and I was quite sad to see him go back, but he's not.

Ds2 (4) starts reception next week. He's my youngest, so it feels a huge step to see him go, but I know he'll love it.

Lovely piece here for mums who are going through this for the first time...

and one here for those moving on to secondary school.

Next year my last one leaves primary school. That's going to be almost as bad as the first one!

lou, hope DD1 enjoys her first day!

Yesterday I saw one of the boys from primary school on his way home from his first day at secondary - tie off, collar open, shirt hanging out, thoroughly scruffy, it doesn't take them long to acclimatise...

Help - my baby is a school boy now! The minute he put his uniform on he looked all grown up. He had a good day and I got lots of cleaning done!

Just for the record, I only iron uniform if it's been stashed away in a cardboard box under a bed for six weeks! Otherwise, it's wash'n'wear! Life is too short for excessive ironing.

I went back yesterday although today is the first day with the kids and I am terrified!! I have not been in a classroom for over a year and the school is in a tough area....although I did teach there for two years before dd was born.

dd( 13 months) started nursery earlier this week and loves it. In fact Tuesday she did not really want to come home - crawled away from me when I told her it was time to go and then held her arms out to her key worker as we were walking out the door. Must admit when I dropped her off for her first half day on Monday I managed to keep it together until I got out the door and then cried a lot!!

Now I am a little torn - glad she loves it so much and they love her - sad that she doesn't feel sad and miss us........ oh well. I know which I would prefer.

my dd, started school last wednesday, i cried before she went as she looked so grown up in her uniform, but i didn't cry when she went, she came out of school with a beaming smile on her face. She is still enjoying it, My ds started nursery today, in the bigger age class, and he went for longer session, he was fine, so i don't know why i worried so much, lol.

DS1 has been back 4 days now..year two! That's the start of his third year at school and I still miss him, though not as acutely as I did at first. He said, of his new teacher "she's great, but not as great as you Mum!" Awwwww.

Another milestone today - his first school dinner (he's always taken a packed lunch). He had "chicken kievs..at least I think they were chicken kievs..they were shaped like teddy bears..sweetcorn..and spring rolls..except they were potato" (I'm guessing this was potato croquettes ). And a chocolate bun for pudding.

Sounds horribly processed but he made up for it by having a massive plate of lentil hotpot for dinner (I know I sound like such a hippy!). DS2 made me feel like SuperMum by picking out the bits of celery and going "yum yum"..he is Max Wilde

Waffling now..will go!
