Rules...... Being broken.

I was just reading the thread about parents sneaking pop/juice into water bottles and this got me thinking about how many other rules are broken.

For example :
in a school where uniform is compulsory skirt, no headwear etc why are muslim girls allowed to wear trousers and head scarves, instead of shorts for P.E. tracksuits.

Why do our kids have to suffer having their "traditional" foods changed to suit the needs of muslims?

Sorry this gets my goat and I am married to a muslim man..... I have this discussion all the time with him.... he is beginning to see my point now.

No i am saying how unfair it is that our kids have to wear correct uniform but the rules are bent for others.

It is their religion........end of story, there would be an uproar if the government tried to put a stop to it.

The rules aren't bent; "correct" uniform for a Muslim child includes their traditional dress because it's a fundamental part of their religion.

As for the food thing, I can't say I've noticed our kids having to suffer having their traditional foods to suit the needs of Muslims ... the Muslims at dd's old nursery ate the turkey twizzlers and smiley faces just like the non-Muslim children.

if the rules are no headwear in class then it should be the same for all not just some. If parents cannot stick to the rules then they should send their children to a school where uniform is not worn.

Sorry i typed the word muslim in about food by accident. But if you think about it pork is not on the menu in majority of schools anymore because muslim children cannot eat it.

Sd, it's not hurting other parents or children if kids have coke in there water bottles, but the thread about that is 200 messages long!

how about they get sent to a school where uniform isn't worn? then no rules to be broken. A uniform in most schools does not include a headscarf.

colditz .. I disagree .. it does hurt other parents and kids if one child takes coke in instead of water .. it then becomes an 'its not fair he can' whine rather than a 'because that's the school rules'

Pork's on the menu around here, in the form of roast dinners and sausages - if the Muslims don't like it, they have the vegetarian option. No pandering to anyone then.

And as Lilsis is just after a scrap, I'm leaving this thread to go and do something far more worthwhile.

you could go into religion with a 5 year old, but I suspect it would be a waste of breath...

There's an easy way to solve this problem ...

School uniform should be scrapped altogether. It's de-humanising and anti-individual.

school uniform is fab and inclusive and helps remove social boundaries and give a sense of belonging
