Arranging to courier an item to buyer

Ive only just started selling on ebay and sold an item last week that needs to be sent by courier.

Its all boxed and ready to go and the buyer has paid so do I just book and get it collected?

I have been emailing the buyer to ask when the best day is for them to make sure they will be in but have had no response.

Would you just get it sent and leave it to the buyer to sort with courier if they are out when its delivered? (I would of course email to say its been sent with a tracking number)
