Capped postal charges on children's books

Grr, completely annoying. Apparently you now can't charge more than £2.75 postage for children's books 'because this is what our buyers consider reasonable' or something.

So there I am, trying to list a set of 10 ORT books, and I can't charge enough postage to cover my costs.

Sheesh.

How can they cap postage that would never cover some of the heavier books or sets ?
Have you tried selling them on here ?

I know, completely pointless. I guess they're thinking of people selling individual items (where 2.75 is probably about right) but neglected to think that people might sell sets of books. Foo.

Looking at listings I think the way people get round it is to put 'other/courier' as postage method and then list the Royal Mail cost in teh body of the listing.

Ruddy annoying though, am tempted to email ebay to query it.

I had this problem too. I was selling a heavy book of bob the builder stories. I just about managed to cover postage by listing as 2nd class.

Looking at ebay's FAQ, they suggest that you raise your starting price to take account of the extra postage. Because of course you pay more in Final value fees if you get a higher price, whereas postal charges don't count towards ebay fees.

money-grabbing gits.

If you list under books > collections and lots the limit is £7.
Listing in a none book category doesn't have the limit. eg. baby > books > early readers.

why do you have to put free postage for DVDs? Does anyone know. Was horrified to find I can't charge for postage.

its capped postagge in ALL categories from what I see. I listed some ps3 games, one guitar hereo with guitar but max I could charge for postage is £3! even under accessories max is £5!!! its bonkers! Plus you start with a higher pirce in bidding and it puts bidders off!!!! beginning to HATE ebay.

The thing is I am reluctant to move my starting prices above 99p as I like to have the free photo/listing..so Ebay are obviously offering something with one hand and taking it away with another - they are trying to force people to start prices higher so they will get more commission...Its all most frustrating..I was quite happy with the way it was a year ago before the changes.
