i bought a discounted item from the high street at xmas sale, dont fit so ebay it and this women bought it. I forgot to tear off the price tag, its very cheap when i bought it, anyway, i charge £3.99 postage.

I have done everything by the book, ok, it cost me £1.24 to post it but i reckon the effort of packing it, driving to the post office during the bad weather, plus the cost of petrol and the cost of mailbag i used to bag it all cost money, so, in my opinion, all that should be included and its up to the bidder to decided whether or not its reasonable or else she shouldnt have bidded in the 1st place.

This woman received the dress, did not say she doesnt like it, but said i charged her riduclous amount of money as p &p and want me to give her some money back , she mentioned in the email saying, by the way, y0ou let the price tag on!! i think the whole issue is that shes gutted i bought it so cheaply and she won it at a much higher price....i think shes feel that shes beng ripped off...but i mean, you bought it and you must have loved it to bid it at the price you paid.... i think shes threatening me or will give me a negative feedback...i have just started sellng things on ebay and hae always been getting positive FB...is there anything i can do, can i contact ebay? i think buyers are abusing the FB system.

Can MN ebayers give me some advice?

How much did she have to pay you for it and how much did you have to pay for it?

Of course you are right and she entered into a contract with you when she bought it agreeing to your postage charges.

However, it seems like quite a big mark up, nd as you are not meant to actually make profit from your postage, I would probably refund her a quid for the sake of goodwill, and explain how your postage is calculated to take account of the rest of the stuff.

Personally I would refund her the £1, get the feedback and then add her to your blocked bidders list and hope she gets an email to that effect.

you can't leave neg fb for a buyer and if you are planning on doing this as a regular way of making money then customer service should be high on the list of priorities.

I sell quite a few things on eby and i think £3.99 for postage that effectively cost you £1.24 is rather steep and I would refund some of the postage - I myself have quoted £2.00 to post a top that cost under a pound to post and ive emailed the buyer to say its not deliberate and ive refunded a £1 to their paypal.

I can see where she is coming from. Basically the you have charged over 3 times the actual royal mail costs. You are allowed to include packaging materials/time fuel etc. but to triple the postage costs is pushing it IMO. Yes she agreed to it - but didn't know the weight of the item etc - so couldn't accurately judge the anticipated costs.

However, she should not necessarily leave negative feedback - there is a system whereby the buyer can now rate the seller on a variety of area's - postage costs is one of them.

Personally I only add an extra 30-40p on top of the actual postage charge- I feel this is fair as I buy packaging bags in bulk or reuse them and tape doesnt cost too much. I think I would of been a bit dissapointed if I was charged that amount for postage. & She unfortunatly has no control over the weather.
But I do agree that she knew the postage price before she bidded. I try to avoid high P&P items but then I use ebay on a regular basis.

You should refund some of the postage. You made a profit on the item to then charge x3 the postage costs is a bit much.
TBH i do now just charge what the postage costs me and 20p more for the packaging if i am not recycling it, if recycling nothing.

Is it worth a neg for couple of quid.

i emailed her, explained how i calculated my P & P but as a goodwill of gesture, willing to refund £1.50.

She now emailed me saying,...i dont want refund anymore, i am giving you feedback becos you are charging riduclous sum of money??!! what else can i do? this is clearly a threat?

Look you have offered to refund some of the postage costs - all of a sudden she is refusing that kind gesture and is either going to or threatening to leave negative feedback. If I were you, I would contact e bay asap and provide them with copies of all correspondence and see what they have to say.

FWIW - I dont think £3.99 is that excessive for p&p, regardless of the item actually costing £1.24 for 'postage'. Actually it makes me laugh because I bet she would have kept quiet had the price been more in her favour!

NEVER NEVER NEVER leave the original price tag on an item you're Ebaying unless it's actually more than what your buyer paid!

I just think she was narked because of that.

Your P+P was a bit steep but yes she knew this before bidding. If you're planning on selling a bit I'd lower your charges a bit.
