Beware if you list DVDs on ebay now. From today you're not allowed to charge for postage or packing.
Ebay suggests you increase the starting price. Of course they do, so they get an increased final value fee.
Those hotdamm !?pickin hustlers !
grrr.

I didnt realise this .. I thought they were just doing it so that if you didn't charge p&p they would let you sell without charging you a fee!

There is currently 25% off the final value fee with free postage on DVD's etc on ebay. Probably why the postage field does not work.

OMG You're right - just been and had a go as never believe what anyone else says!!

Maybe that's an error as there was no notification about this. I have been giving free P+P (just added it to the selling price) to see if made more profit with the 25% discount but it actually makes slightly less profit

At least customers won't expect a discount for combined postage however so for multiple buys can work a little in your favour (if you offered discount before that is)

Huhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, this was announced last year www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200812.shtml

I don't suppose (reading the terms of the announcement) that you can get round it by offering "pick up in person" free and regular post at cost, can you?

Hmmm that was very much in small print - it passed me by!!

That's not fair. Obviously no seller can actually post at no cost to themselves and like I said previously - if you add the cost into the selling price even with the 25% off it's making less profit - to make it make will simply have to up the selling price more - buyer loses, seller loses, Ebay wins

At least set a fair maximum - £1 was what I was charging per dvd, with reduction of 25p for combined postage. I thought that was quite reasonable.

This is why I Amazon sell all our DVDs, CDs and books now. They set the p&p price (at a good rate), set their listing fee and tell you exactly how much you're going to get for it when it sells too. I reckon it works out a bit better than ebay after fees etc

I read somewhere else that e-bid is good, but I've never visited them before. Perhaps it's time?!

do you think we would get away with putting that postage is not included in the total price in the description area ? and saying how much the postage was ?

IIRC, one domestic postage option has to be free (eg 2nd class recorded - I would never send them non-recorded) and 1st class you could charge for as an option. Because it stated "domestic postage" I suspect pick up is not an option you could use as the free one.

cheltenhamgal, no, I suspect you would be reported to Ebay for contravening their rules and/or receive -ve feedback from a buyer if you tried to charge them postage

I usually post mine 2nd class non-recorded - there's no cheaper option for me!!
