I have sold an item on ebay and the buyer has paid by paypal. Paypal have sent an email saying they have a 'hold' on the funds until I get positive feedback?

Whats all that about? I have to send the item before I get any money???

How do I get my P&P money????

yes it's an odd one this holding the money thing, I had that a little while (not sure why).

However you are supposed to send the item once the money is in your paypal account not wait for it to get to your bank account. I

hi i had that done in the past but i assumed it was because i had to cancel a winnig bidder as he didnt want it ( it was explained and i didnt want to give neg (then sellers could ) so we both agreed to cancel the bid. did anything like that happen?

i havent used my account since as you rightly state i to need that money to post so now i use hubby paypal a/c and never had this problem again>>

This is another one of paypals 'good ideas' from their 'lets piss off our sellers even more' team.

Basically if you sell an item which ebay designates as high risk (perfumes, things that there are a lot of fakes about etc etc) OR you have low feedback OR a low customer satisfaction rating, paypal will hold the funds until the buyer has left you positive feedback. This is so that if the buyer decides that they are not happy with the item and disputes the transaction, paypal can refund them (once they've sent it back to you) without having to worry about you having emptied your paypal account.

The money is released when they leave you positive feedback - or if they don't leave feedback 28 days after they paid.

There is a way of getting your money though (unless paypal have now cottoned on!)

refund your buyer 1p, it releases the rest of the funds to you

santa - if she refuses, all you can do is start an item not recieved dispute after 7 days, that might kick her up the butt a bit!

No click on item and it will show details and there is an option to refund there.

Report
JerricaBenton · 17/12/2008 12:30

no, you have to refund via the original payment, like Lily has said.

sorry if this seems really stupid but I have worked a night shift so not my normal 'rapid' self.

Is this all done on paypal or actually on ebay?
I cant see where it says 'item' on paypal???

(this bloody thing has been more trouble than its worth!)

I have just worked out how to do it and got this message.

"Your refund must not exceed your available balance. If you have funds in another currency balance, you may want to consider transferring funds from other currency balances."

ARGH

We had this once - and now ebay have brought in their "you must have free p&p on DVDs" idea

Im not going to bother with Ebay anymore if this is the crap that I have to put up with.

I thought the DVD postage was just for reduced listing fees (or was it final value fees?).

Report

After jan, free P+P must be offered on DVDs!

tired - do it all through Paypal. Find the paypal transaction, click on details, then there should be an option to refund. Do you have any other paypal funds? i think you might need to have at least 1p in the account to do the refund. Im not 100% sure though, sorry

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 17/12/2008 19:02

What on earth is the rational behind that??

Report
LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 17/12/2008 20:18

why free p and p on dvd?
Guess they all going to start for more then to cover it

Report
JerricaBenton · 17/12/2008 21:13

because ebay dont make any money on P+P so higher starting prices = more money for the ebay coffers
