HELP - Confusing problem with Paypal

I sold an item a few days ago and the buyer emailed me to say she had paid by paypal but for some reason it had gone through as an echeque. She apologised for that and said she hadn't asked it to do that.

She said paypal had stated to her that it would be cleared on 30/10.

I had an email from paypal telling me that this person had paid by echeque and that it would clear by 5/11.

I emailed the buyer to inform her of this and told her i'd keep checking and send the item as soon as the funds cleared.

Anyhow, this morning I have had an email from paypal which looks authentic but states that I recieved a payment from this person on 27th Oct, and that if I don't claim it by 26th Nov it will be returned.

It then goes onto say that I must manually claim this money because i am one of paypals high volume users and that they ask users who recieve more than 10000 dollars a month to complete a merchant information form.

I rarely use paypal so I am not a high volume user.

It asked me to click on a link to complete the claim.

I did't, i logged into my paypal account seperatly and from what I can see nothing has changed. The payment is stil uncleared and it doesn't mention anything about me claiming it either.

I am confused.

a e cheque is when you don't have a debit or credit card attached to your card. I made this mistake by paying this way. I wouldn't click the link i would just wait and it should clear. Pay pal said it would take between 5-9 days to clear.

Sorry will start again that didin't make much sense.

basically i payed for something recently and it said payment pending i then realised it was because my pay pal account didn't have a card attached to it to make immediate payments. I got an e-mail from pay pal saying that the funds will take between 5-9 days to clear like a nnormal cheque.

It sounds like it was a spoof email, some of them are really clever now.

As for the echeque payment it should say either pending or uncleared next to it. Its only if a payment says UNCLAIMED next to it you need to worry.

Souns v dodgy to me. I had an American pay with an echeque the other week, and you just get the egg timer thingy on the payment page for a few days till it clears....

IB - did you find out what this was about? SGK just told me you had this happen, I have had the exact same thing this morning. Paypal cock up perhaps or maybe it is a spoof thingy.

If anyone's still wondering, this might help.

It isn't a spoof. It's just paypal being arses
