eBay

growl - buyer wants to return item

I sold a quite expensive children's coat on e-bay.

I have 100% positive feedback and always post 1st class promptly and don't rip off on postage.

The coat's buyer has e-mailed and says the coat is very nice, but too big, and can they have their money back.

Well, I'm not happy about this because I would have to re-list and might not get the same money, plus I don't think they appreciate that they would have to pay the postage costs and my e-bay fees.

I was thinking of e-mailing her and saying that in view of all the costs, she would be better off keeping the coat for next year.

Could I be given negative feedback if I refuse a refund?

Did you clearly state the size etc etc?
Did the buyer email you for measurements?

If not I would simply say you do not accept returns for that reason, the listing clearly stated size etc and you have been honest and truthful.

I cant see how she could neg you tbh without looking daft -how are you supposed to know what clothes would fit her dc? if she doesnt know herself!!

Shes having a laugh im sure.

She's just changed her mind and is trying it on!
Don't refund her. Or tell her that you will refund her minus your postage cost and ebay fees etc and give her a clear amount so she can make her own mind up (only if you want to of course, if you dont then just say no!)
She has no right to a refund unless the item is not as described.

She could leave you negative feedback, but you can respond to this if so and complain to ebay to get it removed.

I clearly stated the make and size of coat. I didn't list measurements -it's a well-known brand.

I think I'll e-mail her and explain that I'm not going to just send back £30.

You stated the size in your listing & she didn't email requesting measurements therefor you do not have to refund.

I certainly wouldn't as you've done nothing wrong!!

I think she is trying it on a bit. If I'd been the buyer, I would just have kept the coat for next year, and left +ve feedback, if the coat was otherwise OK.
I've never expected refunds for things like this (unless the buyer states up front they do accept returns), unless the condition clearly wasn't as stated. That doesn't sound like the case here.

You don't have to refund.

You would get your listing fees etc back though - you file a "mutually decided not to complete the transaction" thing.

No way should you refund her, its not your fault it didnt fit her ds. Ive brought clothes on e-bay for my ds and they haven,t fitted but thats my bad luck and ive just put it in the cupboard until it does or if too small sold it again on e-bay. Just e-mail her and politely say sorry i dont give refunds.

I wouldn't - and wouldn't expect one if I was the buyer. Caveat emptor and all that. I'd have kept it until next year when it did fit.
Cheeky woman - you ain't M&S!

I agree with everyone here.
Also, do you have a refund policy? Its easy to do if you don't, and then if anyone gets arsy in the future you can say "my refunds policy states that I only accept returns if they are damaged or not as described" and then flick some v's at the screen as you press send
