Rules about Ending a Listing Early

DH is a bit of an eBay virgin, but has used my account (100% feedback) to advertise our car which we are selling.

However tonight he's told me that he's also actually advertised it on Autotrader too, and said "if someone buys it from there before the end of the Auction, I'll just withdraw it"

But can he do that? I'm now worried that he'll piss off loads of bidders and I'll be reported or something.

The details on the site don't cover this on eBay Motors. Elsewhere it merely states that you shouldn't advertise something if there is a chance you might sell it elsewhere, but no penaly mentioned as such.

However in the text he has said that it is being advertised elsewhere and the auction may be closed without notice.

I have seen a couple of sofas that I was watching have ended early, so i think you can do it. They hadn't mentioned in their original listing anything about maybe selling elsewhere.

firstly he should probably say its being advertised elswwhere -if he has not done it then update ad to do that. Loads on there say something about reserve right to withdraw from sale.

if he does sell it you go into ebay and there is something in the edit function where you can withdraw car. I did this as got a really good offere early on my car and frankly the idea of carrying on dealing with it was too much hassle to contemplate.

I have this feeling that you can't end an auction within the last day or soemthing though?

WiiMii - thanks, but this only covers sales to people who are eBay members, whether they bid or not.

What if we are offered the Autotrader asking price (by someone who isn't an eBay member, and therefore the sale is outside eBay?

Re-reading all the eBay wording on this, I think it's just carefully designed to give the impression that you CAN'T sell outside eBay, (beacause they'd prefer you not to!) but you can really (to an non-eBayer).
