or how would they respond to a wee note on door saying popped out but please collect from next door neighbour?

I don't think it's personal - the site's been down for a while...
My driver (she says grandly, after a total of 3 collections ) has said it would be fine to leave a package outside, if I was happy, and I can't see leaving it next-door being a problem - I don't think a signature's required on collection anyway. Having said that it might differ between drivers, and you won't know until collection's been missed... Maybe if you phone DHL (who I think do most if not all PPD deliveries), asking about their service (as if you were booking direct iyswim) and ask if their policy allows them to collect from outside, and take it from there?

It doesn't help this time, but my driver says he's always in the area at a certain time (between 12 and 2) which is helpful to know, so if you do book it, ask for next time...
