Slightly damaged item - what would you do?

I bought a BNIB Playmobil advent calendar. It arrived wrapped in brown paper (no bubble wrap or anything like that) and the box was a bit dented. I opened it up to check it and found that the calendar backdrop has 2 small rips on it. It's not very noticeable and I'm sure the dds won't care, but I'm a bit disappointed.

What should I do? It's not bad enough to justify sending it back for an exchange, but I was thinking of asking for a refund of £1 or so. (Calendar cost £13.99 plus £3.50 postage and packing).

ask for refund. good plan. thats still quite alot of money for an advent calendar- you want it to be perfect, you bought it new. i am guessing if it were in a shop you would ask for some money off?

I would send an email as well just asking for a slight refund as you are disappointed. Would a photograph pick the damage up? If so take a picture and send that with your request.

it's not grief, only asking. Wouldn't hurt and they can only say no. It is true, if I was buying something in a shop and it was damaged I'd ask for money off (if it was the last one)

perhaps ask for the postage to be refunded?

I'd ask for a partial refund as the damage was caused by the lack of appropriate packing.
I'd be polite in the request and wouldn't stress too much if you don't hear back from them.
It may at least, prompt them into packaging items a bit better in future

Thanks for the responses. I have emailed asking for a 10% refund.
