£8 post and packing on an item costing £2.20 to send. Am definitely going to check what I bid for more carefully in the future. Does it seem excessive to you and what feedback do you suggest I give?

I'd ask the seller for a partial refund

It's up to you. Most sellers will just say tough luck, but you could ask for some of it back. Otherwise leave a comment in your feedback. I wouldn't leave negative feedback if everything else was in order, but a comment warns other buyers.

yup, a neg isn't called for if all was in order. there is the fact that you knew the P&P before bidding, but based on the fact that it may be an item you cannot guess the weight of you are within your rights to ask for a partial.

You can't really leave feedback until you have given the seller a chance to rectify. If they refuse the partial then I'd leave a neut stating that all was well but P&P was very high
