Cash on collection items

I'm selling an item for local pick up and have stated cash on collection preferred.
A potential buyer has contacted me to say their account won't let them pay cash and will only complete with PayPal but I don't think this can be right as I've sold this way before and never had any problems with cash on collection before. I've told them it should be fine to wait until the end of the auction (they suggested ending it early so they can pick up and just pay cash - thus avoiding all fees, but would Ebay pick up on that?) Does anyone know?

I buy and sell on eBay via cash on collection and haven't had any problems. The seller confirms the item/s are paid for once the transaction is complete and no PayPal or other invoice is generated.

If a potential buyer is not wanting to pay cash but wants to collect and you are new to this I think you should look on eBay's buying and selling advice pages before you commit yourself with that sale, because there are some issues around this you should be aware of.

eBay will not penalise you for selling for cash on collection, and in some circumstances they advise it. You will still be charged their commission on the sale based on the final selling price, whichever way payment is made.

I should add I think be prepared for this buyer is wanting to pay less by tempting you with no selling fees by ending the auction and doing a private sale. See eBay help pages for the implications of this.

eBay listings usually make you offer PayPal (which is owned by Ebay) but in the depths of their advice sections they warn that you should only take cash for collection to prevent people saying "item not received" and scamming a refund out of the seller. I put in capital letters Cash on collection only. Any PayPal payments will be refunded.

you must never take paypal for collected item. And a buyer who insists on paypal and wants to end early too - well I don't think I would trust them at all.

You can also put Other payment type on your listing and write Cash On Collection in the box . Once you are paid you can mark the item as paid.
