Can seller have my feedback removed?

I posted negative feedback on an item I purchased as it was unsuitable for use. The seller didn't accept that it was unsuitable and offered to refund the item only if I paid return postage. (I didn't open a case with eBay as by the time she'd faffed around I didn't have time to deal with it before going away).

Seller has now posted under my negative feedback that it will be removed as she offered me a refund. Can she do that without eBay asking me about it?

I'm curious what will happen, too.

OK.... the answer is "it depends".

When leaving negative feedback try to stick to the facts. Anything veiled as an insult or slanderous, or containing offensive terms may possibly be removed.

e.g if I left feedback stating "This person is a conman, they ripped me off and should be behind bars" then the seller should be successfully be able to get this removed.

However "Item was not fit for purpose out of pocket for return postage" or "Really disappointed, would not use this seller again" are both factual and would have no grounds for removal.

BUT negative feedback against a seller simply can't be removed because they "offered you a refund".

according to another thread it can be removed, 19lottie. If seller offers a full refund and buyer refuses but leaves neg f/b instead. I couldn't find any threads about this on ebay discussion boards to verify or contradict.

trout as i think I pointed out in the other thread too, that is incorrect. If the feedback stated "seller wouldn't give me my money back", when the buyer had refused a refund, then, yes it could be removed, as it's a false statement BUT just refusing a refund when offered, doesn't mean eBay will remove any negative feedback.

I'm a business seller and I wish it did!

Again, as long as the feedback is factual and not offensive / slanderous then it's likely eBay won't remove it. If everything hasn't gone smoothly the buyer is entitled to leave negative feedback if their general purchasing experience "hasn't been positive".

ah... so in the other thread was the f/b only removed because it was factually untrue?

Hi Trout, yes the OP in the other thread did have her feedback removed, and she did offer a refund which was rejected, but the removal wouldn't be down to that, there would have been other factors behind eBays decision IYSWIM. It may have been because the feedback was offensive or contained false information, or it may be due to something else, for example a pattern of the buyer trying to "scam" part refunds out of sellers, who knows?

However, Offering a refund and having it rejected is not grounds for removal of negative feebback alone.

Thanks for your help. It's irritating, as I tried my best to resolve it with her. I think I'll avoid buying things on eBay now Angry
