I won a bedding set for baby room last night no longer stocked by shop
email this morning that her children had destroyed it and would need to wash it and re list any salvageable bits

granted I know accidents happen but so annoyed . I wonder if anything do with the cheap price 16.00 total.
I have had this 2-3 times in last six months
its excuses more and more

Amazon and real shops might be safer, but they are not always as cheap - and are not ebay which the thread is about?

That doesnt help with the OP does it?

Re your problems, i've not had that recently (cant remember if at all to be honest)

The worst thing is not knowing whether they are telling the truth or not. If you know they're just awful then you can leave a neg and not feel bad but you don't want to condemn someone who is telling the truth.

I hate ebay for this sort of thing. I sold something last week, got it all out ready to go, in the rain (outdoor toy, loads of pieces) and she said she'd be there within the hour. Never turned up. Angry

It makes me really cross.

Annoying but nothing you can do.

Ebay is so much a gamble these days.

Sorry OP. Better luck next time

Ebay is good for very hard to find stuff. If it's antique or unusual or just really rare then Ebay is useful at times.

Everything else, go with Amazon or a normal online shop. I realise now I'd rather pay a bit more and know roughly what I'm getting.

We had a seller say the item had been stolen on the night we won the auction for a very low price. We reported the seller to ebay and left negative feedback, which the seller tried to have removed but ebay agreed with us. It's all you can do really.

Smacks of entitled to shop, though. It's just STUFF. Nobody needs all this Stuff, much less discontinued, vintage or at a discount.

entitled to shop? What are you on about? Presumably the seller wants you to buy their stuff or they wouldn't have listed it.

Plus it keeps it out of landfill.

And cuts down on manufacturing of new stuff...is it not better to re use and recycle old shite, than to insist on getting new stuff?

While I agree there is too much stuff in the world full stop. It's not the fault of ebay.

Ebay is part of the solution in my opinion - re- use!

I buy shoes and smart clothes for my son on ebay, expensive sorts, barely worn for a fraction of the new price. Until he stops growing like a weed it meansomething that I can afford to dress him nicely and not stress when he gets filthy.
For kids stuff it's a no brainer.
But it's not only EBay where people pretend to have had a dreadful accident befall their goods if they think you've got it too cheap or they receive a better offer elsewhere.
People are not all honest no matter where they sell.

I would report her as a non performing seller and don't allow her to cancel the sale. You probably won't get the stuff you won but it will highlight her actions to ebay.

her message said about washing and relisting any separately that were salvageable .
I fancy she will be trying to relist separately and get more from it

I've never had this on ebay and would never do it ...I put things on at the lowest price I will accept and any more is a bonus!
And it definitely has it place for hard to find items...
Re-flooring my attic under the boards I found some old battered/rusty metal - discovered they were part of a vintage (1960s) scooter. I could have skipped them but thought someone might want them. I listed them for a £5 - I got inundated with 'buy it now' s and requests that I ship around the world. And emails advising me not to sell them for £5 they were worth a lot more. They went for nearly £100 -but honestly I was more happy that someone wanted them and could use them!
I am amazed at the ebay buying mentality...I think it encourages people to put low starting bids (and then be tempted to withdraw).
I recently bid on a bike for my DD -there were 2 of the kind I wanted, similar good condition for sale near me. I put my maximum bid -highest price I would pay for that bike - on the one finishing first and slightly closer to me. It had a £40 lower starting price. I was outbid -it sold for £30 more than the starting bid of the other bike. I bid on the other bike and got it at the starting price... which was less than I was prepared to pay...

Has she refunded you? If not she needs to do that now. And of course you can neg and leave low stars if you want, mention non performing seller. And she may send a cancellation request which you can also refuse if you wish.

Have you asked her for photos of the damage? to judge whether you would still like the item. That way if she shows you a photo you know she is telling the truth and it's annoying, but unfortunate. If she won't then you probably are correct and she didn't get as much as she hoped for it.

I have unfortunately twice had items I've sold which due to being messed about by the buyers (once on ebay, once on facebook) not coming for them when they said they would got damaged by my children. I messaged the people with a picture of the damage asking if they still wanted the item, if so I would knock x amount off the price, if not I would relist the item with an explaination of the damage. Both people still opted to collect the items at the reduced price. Oddly enough they then both collected very quickly then, which I was more annoyed about as if they'd collected when they first said they would the items would not have got damaged.
