Please help with my paypal query

It's been a wee while since I've sold anything. Have just been successful and am surprised that when I look at my paypal account the balance shows that I've not been transferred the full amount plus the full postage amount. E.g sold leather jacket for £120 plus £8 postage (to send first class signed for) - would therefore expect to see £128 , but instead have £123.45?? Why would this be?

Do I have to print postage labels from my paypal account, and if I do, will I be charged again, or have they already subtracted the postage? I would prefer just to take the stuff to the PO and get them to weigh etc.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

PayPal is not a free service exactly -

Pressed send too soon! It levies a fee on your transaction, hence you receive less than the gross sale price.

I had this problem once when I bought something - the seller complained to me that she hadn't received the full amount and that I needed to pay her more. Took a while to persuade her this wasn't the case.

If you select the transaction it will show you a full breakdown of how the fee has been calculated. As a percentage of sales it makes a mint on high value transactions and proportionally less on smaller ones. Really annoying to the seller though to lose another 3.5% or whatever it is now on top of ebay fees, when ebay owns Paypal anyway..

Thank you very much. That explains it!

Don't forget your eBay fees which will be a further 10% of 128 so £12.80

please don't send standard first class signed for - that will not insure for that amount.

You need courier or special delivery.
