eBay

My first (and hopefully last) disappointing purchase from eBay!

I don't purchase a great deal from eBay, just the odd bits. This time i was really looking forward to this arrival, it was a duvet cover for my son, 5 yrs. I couldn't wait to see the look on his face. The cover had a favourite hero of his on it. You can also purchase this cover from next but its double the price. The eBay ad, only stated it had been washed & ironed.

Anyway, as i opened it, all looked well. I always wash new duvet covers, especially my sons (he has eczema). Duvet cover 100% cotton. But the label on the duvet cover has been marked by black marker pen & cut so i cut it off, fearing the black ink may run onto the white of the cover. So i put it on a cool wash & tumble dry it, which it says you can do.

As i take it out of the tumble dryer, i notice holes in the pillow case and holes in the duvet cover. Gutted. Little holes, like tears. I check the cover and pillow case quality more closely and become more convinced that this isn't up to next standards. In fact, i check the label on the pillow case, there is no 6 or is it 8? digit number that is on all next textile/clothing items.

So it looks as though i have purchased a fake next product, of course i can't prove it, i could be wrong. The head part on the pillow case looks more white as well! I can't return it as the label has been removed & i've washed it. So i've tried my best to sew the tears, which weren't easy as every time i put the needle through the 'cotton' material, it created another hole!

Anyway ive made do and put it on my sons bed. He knows no different & seems happy enough ;) I suppose you really do only get what you pay for!In saying this, the seller has lots of positive reviews and i'm not the type of person to leave negative reviews, i'd just rather not leave one at all.

You should take it up with the seller. If you don't get a positive response (full refund) you should absolutely leave negative feedback. Buyers want to know about negative experiences - if you'd read negative feedback about this buyer you might not have bought from him/her - don't let someone else have the same bad experience. eBay works because the feedback system for the most part allows people to buy with confidence.

I bought a cd that turned out to be counterfeit. eBay took it very seriously.

I'd also contact next and tell them.

It worked for me when I told EMI - they sent me some free CDs. Not what I was after but a lovely gesture.

The PayPal was reversed and the seller was banned.

Of course you should contact the seller and neg if not a good response - that is the whole point of feedback.

I can see now that it would be fair to leave negative feedback. My nephew works for next security so I may just send a pic of the label & see if he would think if it's counterfeit, he may be able to tell. I'm sure if I was to order the duvet cover from next & compare the two the differences would be there to see. Strange as others buyers have seemed happy with their purchase.

I think the label thing could be a red herring. Often items in the sale, or surplus stock, has the label marked to prevent store returns.

The condition it was in full of holes is surely the more important issue here?

Have you messaged the seller?

E-bay will refund you completely if it turns out to be a fake, but first get intouch with your seller and tell her you are not happy with your purchase,if she values her feedback & defect score she will respond accordingly and do the right thing and refund you.I sold 2 x Next duvet sets from twin DGSs room and even did close up of the tinest mark on the digger (about 1/2 inch) made with a coloured pen,the buyer was delighted with her purchase and thanked me for mentioning it,but cuts/holes are totally unacceptable imo.
