Buyer asked to pay cash on collection?

We have just sold out table and chairs (first ever sell!) on eBay. The guy has now messaged us asking to arrange collection and can he pay cash on collection.. Is this generally recommended? The buyer has been an eBay member since 2004 and has very good feedback for both buying and selling ...

yes it is the only way, you must never ever take paypal for a collected item. most important rule of ebay tbh.

for something like this we accept cash on collection - make sure it is real cash - not cheque etc

just like buying something out of paper

Why shouldn't you take PayPal for a collected item? I've never sold anything that way but I've purchased that way.

If you accept Paypal for a collected item you have no way of proving the item was collected therefore the buyer could claim it was never received.

I would obviously never do this but the reason is I could pay by paypal arrive collect goods be very nicce remove goods and then file a "not received" claim with ebay you have no proof of posting even never mind proof of delivery i win case you forced to refund i have your stuff and my own money

and for info paypal ebay will not accept a signed receipt from buyer to say collected as you could forge it

so NEVER EVER EVER take paypal for collection items

Thanks, I never knew about the PayPal/collection problems.

Never had problems with that happening and have sold over 1000 items. I prefer cash on collection as then you don't have paypal fees for taking your money out of paypal. It works out that you get to keep more of your money that way. As soon as they collect the item you mark it as dispatched and give feedback. You shouldn't have any problems. It is no different anyway than someone buying and then saying they hadn't received it in the post. Most people are honest and make the most of ebay in a good way. Hope this helps a bit.

most ebayers are honest and it is unlikely to happen but could and there would be nothing you can do about it

particularly open to this type of scam ipads cameras mobiles any tech stuff, much less likely to happen with your granny's old wardrobe

Currently selling first item on eBay - and I've done papal only (as i thought that would be easier) and collection only (bed - can't really post).

Worried now!! I wish I'd read this first :(
