I'll risk it. He has good feedback on ebay.

I think perhaps he's been burned in the past re buyers not supplying their part exchange item but he could be a bit more flexible.

you do have protection with paypal but the seller is breaking ebay rules doing an off ebay sale

Can't you find another seller though - he sounds obstructive now, he won't be any better if it all goes wrong I guess?

As mentioned, eBay advise against it however you have to assess the risk. Like you, my seller didn't do it through eBay but the item was £5 so not a huge loss whereas you are talking about a lot more money. I would imagine with the feedback, etc it will be fine and I also thought like you that I had enough evidence if things went wrong so went for it. The item arrived fine, if going for it, do it through PayPal.

He is likely avoiding eBay as the fees on £150 would mean he would make even less.

It is listed as £200 on ebay. Further down the listing it says £150 part exchange direct from company by phone.
I have asked him to buy it now part exchange on ebay or amend invoice on ebay but he wont - he says have to do that by phone or Paypal invoice, which he has sent me. Dont know why he is not being more helpful, but he doesnt know why I am being difficult either, perhaps?

He has about 200 feedbacks and its 100% and hes listed as a business seller but when I googled it it seems an ordinary semi is the address.

I guess to be safe I have to pay the £200 via ebay.
But seems wasteful as cant then p/e the part and costs an extra £50.

Ebay advises that they send an amended invoice via EBay to ensure protection, it is easy for the seller to do.

If you get an invoice not linked to the eBay item, PayPal ask for info regarding the purchase and if you click 'eBay', a warning pops up that you won't be protected by eBay. Not sure if sending a PayPal invoice not linked to the item is a way to avoid fees?

yes you can open a not received/not as described case via paypal if there is a problem

I want to buy a car part.
Full price is £200.
Part ex price is £150
I can pay via paypal on ebay but only the standard full price.
to pay part ex price I need to do it by phone.
Told seller (business, 1 page static website) I did nt want to do that and he said he would send a paypal invoice with all the details for the £150 price.
Am I still covered this way if I pay but never get my part/ get rubbish, please?

Would be grateful for advice
