Just bought a fake Ergo carrier...

And I thought the listing looked so genuine! It was an auction, and went about £50, the listing said that she's used it for her baby and it was great.

When I received it yesterday, I thought 'wow this in pretty good condition, seeing as the listing said she'd used it for 3 years!'.

So, I've just sent an email to the seller asking for a refund...anything else I should do?

yes - if no joy from seller just open not as described dispute with ebay, when they tell you to send it back tracked, give ebay the tracking info and you will get your refund

Either way make sure you send it back with a signature so you can prove the seller has received it back.

Are you absolutly sure it's fake. I've got an old ergo which is definitely genuine and that online guide to fakes lists a number of things mine has as signs of a dake one

The things I've noticed as fake:

  • came in a plastic pouch, rather than a box
  • seller said she'd used it for 3 years, but doesn't seem like it's been worn at all.
  • hood only has elastic on the top, not at the sides, and has really long hood-fixing straps.
  • logo says 'Ergo baby carrier' not just 'ergo carrier'
  • warning label is on the body of the carrier, rather than the waistband, and only in one language.
  • no serial number on the 'made in china' label inside the hood pocket.
  • waist buckle says 'warrior' not 'stealth'

things that make it look real:
  • zipper pulls have ergobaby logo
  • colours on logo and actual carrier are fine
  • seems like a high-quality material

If in doubt then ask for a refund. But of your list mine has all of these

  • logo says 'Ergo baby carrier' not just 'ergo carrier'

  • no serial number on the 'made in china' label inside the hood pocket.
  • waist buckle says 'warrior' not 'stealth'inside the hood pocket.

And I know it's genuine as i bought it directly from ergo. It is however about five years old. I've used it for two children and its still in excellent condition

Sorry not sure why that's gone a bit wrong but essentially what i was trying to say is that mine has all those things you list as being signs of a fake. I can categorically state mine is not a fake

Well, I think I have to apologise to the woman who sold it to me. All the research I'd done online previously, said the 'warrior' on the buckle was a sign of a fake, but it's only today, after researching more, that I find out that the 'warrior' thing is on old Ergos.

Man, do I feel like a TWAT.

I had the same thing with a used Beco! I thought it was a fake and went back to the seller. I had to grovel a little when the seller showed me her receipt from a legit and reputable sling shop!

Glad I'm not the only one.

She won't mind giving your proof that it is genuine, she should know that there are a LOT of fake Ergos around.
