I bought a pushchair on eBay that was eventually sent to me with lots more damage than was described including a completely broken handlebar. It cost me a lot of money, but was fairly cheap for what it is. I still haven't received all the parts for it, but they are being sent in a few days. I have looked into the cost of new parts, most importantly the handle. It will cost £50 for a new handle and I think about £60 for damaged parts.

The seller is denying all knowledge of any damage and is now claiming it was described as used with lots of scratches. It wasn't-the listing described it being in good used condition. I have sent photos to show the damage but the seller couldn't care less.

So obviously, I need to open a case for it. What I want to know is what the likelyhood is of receiving a partial refund to cover the new handlebar and at least some of the cost of the other parts. I know I could send it back for a full refund, but I would be out of pocket by £25 for a courier and I actually would like to keep the pushchair if I get the money for repairs.

So does anyone have any advice or experience with this sort of thing please?

If you open a case they will tell you to return trackable at your expense for a full refund. eBay won't grant partial refunds.

They wont give you a partial refund but you can ask for one. I would send back for a full refund. A courier could cost you £6! I posted a car seat yesterday and it was only £7

You haven't seen the size of this! I could probably find a courier for between £15 and £20 though.

So if I ask for a partial refund, can they decide not to grant me one but rule that I need to return it instead? I'd rather try for the partial refund, getting the seller to decide to give me the money. But if eBay say no, I don't want to be stuck with an expensive broken pushchair.

no you can ask for a partial refund and the seller can action it, but as far as I am aware eBay will just say return for a full refund. You will need to send trackable to prove it has been returned.

Ok, thankyou both. I'm still not entirely sure what to do if it's not definite thst they'll say no to partial refund, but to do a full refund.

what pushchair is it? I have sent loads over the years, most expensive was a silvercross sleepover - but only becuase there were so many extras it went in 2 boxes. It shouldn't cost you that much to return it. I once went through for partial refund to replace a part on a pushchair - they found in my favour but to return the whole thing anyway

It's a Peach Blossom. I've priced it up at £18 for postage with insurance. I've opened a case for a full refund because she didn't want to give me a partial refund anywhere near the anount needed. Thanks for your reply, it's strange they won't do a partial refund. This seller will have lost out by about £40 in P&P because she used ParcelForce, plus the cost of the replacement handle as a minimum repair at £50. And she probably won't sell it for as much if she admits to the other damage. So it really is in her best interest to give me the partial refund and have done with it.

ah ok, a double - have you checked senditnow? I always use them for bulkier items. They are parcelforce, but cheaper than PF website - she may even have used that site herself. well, know it's annoying for you, but you will get your money back

I could only get Senditnow to arrange for the recipient to collect from either a depot or a PO, which isn't necessarily going to be convenient. I can't imagine it'll be cheaper than £18. It's in a massive box, weighs nearly 20kg and needs high insurance on it.

I know I'll eventually get my money back, but it's annoying that I have to lose out by £18 through no fault of my own.
