I managed to walk into a solicitors today to enquire about divorce. But i am unsure if I can proceed. Before a proper meeting with a solicitor they want h's name and contact details. Trouble is he can be violent and he has threatened that he will take the children - I know he has connections to remove them without checks and once home the country is too corrupt for me to get them back - so I need to access how I can leave. Do I need to find another solicitor or are they all like this?

Yes, any solicitor needs his details so they can check they've never acted for him. It's essential.

They won't contact him or anything, they just need to be sure he isn't someone whose confidential information they already hold.

This happened to me too. It's just so that the solicitor can check that they are not already doing any work for him. They do not contact him so please don't worry. Well done for being brave and going to the solicitors.

Thank you

I know, we are horribly expensive. But at least see someone for advice, so you know your options.

If you were married in this country you can get a copy certificate pretty easily.

Sounds like you also need women's aid help. If he is violent and may kidnap the children they can help you to seek support.
