Any idea if there's a formula for this? Most stuff is less than 3 years old but will be worth much less on resale. In scotland btw if that makes a difference

I think people usually just share the house contents out

My solicitor has asked me to do it as part of the financial info thing to estimate house contents. I know, I should ask her how to do it but every email costs cash!
I've looked everything we have bought together up on eBay or Gumtree. Hoping that's ok.

You don't have to do that through solicitors are u able to agree the split of that between you?

Sadly STBXH is completely putting his head in the sand. Refusing to talk, refusing a solicitor, refusing to engage. I'd hoped we could do a collaborative approach to separating but sadly it looks like it'll have to go to court. No chance in hell of getting him to talk about separating stuff.

In dh's divorce case the judge wouldn't rule on contents, said it was to be agreed between them.

In reality there's no way of forcing someone to hand over property, so dh got none of it.

Don't you have a contents valuation for insurance purposes?

Your solicitor sounds like she doesn't know what she's doing or she's just milking the cash cow.
take a coloured pad of sticky notes and place them on the items you want and he does the same. After a few days juggling the notes about it should be sorted. There's not much value in second hand house contents and will cost more to replace when you both get your new homes.
Sort out as much as you can between yourself's as it will be a lot easier and cheaper.
