divorce and singapore

Have been living in Singapore since 2007. Have two girls - mid to upper primary age (each with various special needs). Husband is financially and emotionally abusive. I've asked for a divorce but he won't consider it. I'm seeking legal advice. I've been told it's a very patriarchal society and that I slowly need to collect evidence. I work - its a new job but its good and they are supporting me. Has anyone experience of divorcing well (against a recalcitrant/stubborn etc. husband)? I can see that I probably need to stay here as he won't budge. Has anyone done similar? I'm looking for options that I might not have considered (I'm an ex-pat but there's no possibility of getting back to where I come from - I'll have to do it on the terms set here). I love my kids and will not leave to fly in/out to see them ... any help appreciated.
