...did you keep your married name? are you still Mrs. or now miss?

Did you keep your wedding rings and wedding dress? Thinking of getting rid of mine but feels a bit weird.

Just wondering what other people did?

Reverted to 'Miss my maiden name' by deed poll a month or 2 after separating, so divorce happened using my maiden name. Flogged wedding ring (again prior to actual divorce), and have just realised I have absolutely no idea what happened to my dress - can only assume it must have got left in a loft years ago during one of our many house moves.

i used my married name right up until getting married to 2nd husband - purely because it is ds1's surname so it made sense to keep it.

i sold my wedding & engagement rings and indeed all the jewellery exh had given me, and put the money into ds1's bank account.

i've still got the dress and am sort of reluctant to part with it for reasons i can't really understand or explain!

I still use my married name because I prefer it to my maiden name (plus it's a faff getting it changed with all the utilities, bank, employers etc etc). I might change it something else in the future, who knows?

STBX took my wedding ring with him the day I threw him out (to 'keep it safe') so I've no idea and don't really care where it is. All other jewellery I either binned or sold.

Wedding dress I chucked ages ago, a symptom of my dying feelings.

These are all really personal choices and the timing will be right when it's right.

I never changed my name to begin with, so there's nothing to change back. I'd like to sell the dress and engagement ring and the wedding ring is on my key chain. don't know why, maybe I'll change my mind when I actually move out a week Wed. (yay!)

I kept my married name for DD's sake. Continued to do so when I got married second time because otherwise my DD would be the only one of 5 of us with a different surname. Now she is about to go off to Uni, I am changing to my new married name by choice (DH is quietly thrilled).

I kept my married name because of the children. I let them use my wedding dress for playing dress up and my mum has my rings for safe keeping so I can pass them to my DD when she's old enough.

I never used his surname so the only thing that has changed is that now I am Ms instead of Mrs. The wedding dress is still in the house but it doesn't mean anything anymore and I have no idea what to do with it, I guess I will dspose of when and if it starts to bother me.

The rings were sold, again, they didn't mean anything since years before we split.

Have always been Ms, and reverted to my maiden name by deed poll prior to divorce, which was very liberating.
My wedding dress is in my parents' loft- must get rid of it some time. Am going to sell my engagement ring and buy a piece of jewellery with the money. The wedding ring is a family heirloom (on my side) so will keep that for dd.

Planning on changing my name back once divorce has been finalised. I can't stand the idea of carrying on with his name and I much prefer my maiden name. I have found this difficult because it would mean being different to DD but STBXH has agreed to allow me to double-barrell DD's name Smile

Wedding and engagement rings will be sold and money put into an account for DD.

Not sure about the dress. I'll probably flog it!

Hmm I wonder if I would find it liberating to revert to my maiden name...is it expensive ie needing a solicitor or anything? I wonder if my dc of 12 and 14 wouldnt like it though.

I still have my rings which are probably worth a bit but I am hanging onto them , its odd I feel quite sentimental about them even though I dont about the marriage .

I thought maybe I would ultimately hand them onto the dc but actually its a bit of a poisoned chalice really seeing as my xh left , I dont think I wouldve wanted any rings from my parents failed marriage !!

This afternoon I was having some photos printed and had to leave my name; I used my maiden name and it felt really good Smile

gettingeasier - I think you change it by deed poll or use your decree absolute, no need for solicitor. www.ukdps.co.uk/AWomansRightsUponDivorce.html
I suppose the DCs could have the rings just as something that they could sell if they ever needed the money.

I reverted back to my maiden name, I don't remember having to do anything other than simply handing out copies of my divorce and birth certificates to banks etc to revert name back. Felt great using it again, like closing a chapter!

I still have my rings, not bothered what happens to my wedding ring, but I love my engagement ring and am thinking about possibly having it enlarged so i can wear it on another finger. As far as I'm concerned it's simply a beautiful ring and it's not it's fault what it was bought for! I will probably pass it onto my niece at some point.

My dress is stored away on a box at my parents house. If I get another one day I'll prob chuck it out, but as it is I'm strangely attached and don't want to part with it. No sentiment at all as to what it was used for, just again, I love the dress and felt amazing in it for a day.

I think if you have children it can be nicer to keep the same name as them and not go back to your maiden name. if not then I guess there's no reason not to. Up to you really. Same with rings and dress - I have kept mine as I thought my daughters may want them one day.

I used my marriage certificate and decree absolute to change everything back apart from my bank who insisted on a deed poll. www.thelegaldeedpollservice.org.uk/44/a-womans-rights-upon-divorce
