Chiltern Cycling Club-Adults Riding with Training Wheels

So I have mild Dyspraxia & can't rbalance on a bike without training wheels but can't afford a trike & do all my cycling with them on. I was recently invited to a social cycle with the local Chiltern club (with a few to becoming a member), but my friends have said not to go as they'll probably make fun of my training wheels & that people with training wheels can't become members anyway. Is this true? The guy who invited me knows of my condition, so unsure why he'd invite me if I'd get stick for it.

does the person who invited you know that you use the stabilisers? I'd just clarify that it's ok to use them. I shouldn't think it'd be problem, good on you for getting out there. Bikes terrify me!

I'd wonder what went on in the heads of adults who made fun of people who needed extra equipment to participate. A few members might intially be a bit surprised by it, only because it's not something that is often seen but i shouldn't think it'd be an issue in the long term.

The stabiliser wheels on your bike are a disability aide not training wheels. If anyone is rude enough to mention the stabilisers in a negative way just tell them you have a disability. Happy cycling

The guy who invited me does know. We met whilst cycling - he's like my adopted dad and is really supportive of me getting out there.

Tbh I'm not the most confident cyclist but I can do off-road quite well. I thought a cycle club would give me that extra boost to make my cycling a bit more challenging. My friends are 'tour de france' types so members of cycling clubs themselves, so they're talking from experience I think.

I'll have a go anyway. If the teasing is unbearable I'll try to find something else.

If this guy knows the club and the score with how you ride due to disability, then there will be no issue. I have a disability, and ride with a social club and with a cycling club and no one bats an eyelid at anyones adaptations. I also know the president of the tricycle riding club who lives locally and no one would take the mick out of him
